Aug 17, 2002

It's been a while since I've had any real thoughts on what might happen. I've watched over the last year and have come to a simple conclusion: Washington wrecks good people. President Bush is no longer the man who stood atop the destroyed WTC to promise retribution, redemption, and justice. He is simply a beltway insider who forgot what it means to be American.

My prediction today is that we continue the backward slide into the hell that was the '90s.

Oct 19, 2001

I was right and I was wrong and I was right. Maybe not in that order, but that's how it is.

I was right. The next attack was Anthrax. They are doing it because it scares us and because we can fight it. And it will cost a lot of money.

I was right. They are targeting things we brag about. The cases are pretty much contained to the media. 1st Amendment.

I was wrong. For now. They didn't target technology. At least not yet.

Nostradamus, eat your heart out.

Sept 30, 2001

It's been over three weeks since the attack.

A guy in Florida died of Anthrax, but they promise us it's not related. Never mind it's the first aerosol case of Anthrax in over a quarter century. Coincidence. Maybe. Maybe practice.

They're telling us another attack is almost certain. Here's my prediction.

But first, let's lay a little groundwork. It's important to understand that I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm just putting together pieces of a puzzle that may not even exist. You definitely may get what you're paying for.

Terrorism

The word is significant. I do not believe that our enemies want to wipe us off the earth. At least not yet. They simply can't. Their goal is to get and keep us out of the way. They want to gain immense power and influence in their part of the world. They use Islam to mask their intense desire for power. They use words like 'holy' and 'infidel' to justify the isolation of the Middle East. The U. S. presence keeps them from gaining absolute power in the region. They hate that. They want power.

We all know what the ultimate worldly power is. Not nuclear nor biochemical nor conventional. It's the energy that runs the world. Black gold, Texas Tea, as the Beverly Hillbillies said. They control the Middle East, they hold the world for ransom. Then they will be powerful enough to rule and achieve the ultimate goal. Usama (in the generic sense) is king of the world.

That's what this is about. Not religion nor Allah nor Islam nor poverty.

What's Next?

Their attacks have been on symbols of American power. The financial industry, the Defense Department. What else do we boast about? Technology, entertainment, farming, democracy. Flight 93 was allegedly targeted at the Capitol or Whitehouse. Another threat was against Atlanta. Why Atlanta? That was the week of the Networld+Interop tradeshow. It's the biggest computer networking show.

They used our civilian aircraft as smart bombs to do their dirty work. What have we done? Spent all of our effort and untold dollars to make the skies safe. The proverbial 'last war'. They won't use this tactic again any time soon.

So what's next? I think they will hit a technology target. Silicon Valley, Redmond, maybe even the Comdex tradeshow that is held in Las Vegas in November. It will probably be a biochemical attack. My guess is Anthrax precisely because we can vaccinate and treat it. Our response to such an attack is completely predictable. Spend all of our energies vaccinating and treating. Seeing the pattern?

Next will probably be chemical, maybe Sarin. I have no idea how we respond to that threat, but I am sure that there are exhaustive and expensive contingency plans. Then maybe Smallpox or another hijacking. They are trying to make this too expensive to fight. Public support wanes, they win.

What do we do? I have no idea. But I do have a politically incorrect (nothing to do with that bastard Bill Maher) suggestion. Wipe the devils off the face of the earth, no matter where they are. No mercy, no frail coalitions, no negotiations, no surrender. Only complete and total victory.

To date, our only friend is England. Israel might be, I can't decide. India has potential. Russia is a wild card. The rest of NATO seems too timid and squeamish. Time to act like winners.
